Scalextric

Built several large scalextric tracks with Jon and Simon this afternoon after playing basketball and aerobee in the park.

To make Jon happy, here is a bad video:

No train near Beggars Bush Lane

Walking home from school this lunch time along the Grand Union canal with Jon I was disappointed to find that I wasn’t able to provide proof of the existence of a mini-railway which used to run along the bank of the canal parallel to Beggars Bush Lane. I remember seeing the mini railway, similar to the one in Cassiobury Park, when I was younger and went on bike rides with my dad.

All that I saw of it today was would could have been an engine shed and a sign saying “No Locomotives past this point”. Great. Now Jon probably thinks I made it up….

Choosing a laptop

Thank you Jon for sending me a link to this Macbook Air parody after we had talked about the impracticalities and style over substance nature of Apple’s latest product.

We were discussing which laptop we would buy for Uni.

Computing at School

Yesterday lunchtime I was invited along with Jon to attend Mr Needlestone’s first student e-council meeting to discuss the use of technology in school and in particular our school’s e-learning resource, Rickypedia. Most years were represented and I was surprised to see that I actually knew a couple of the lower school members.

I couldn’t stay for the full meeting as I then had to demonstrate my computing coursework to Mr Cruse. And yes, it went wrong. This was followed by a discussion about GameMaker - Mr Cruse is considering teaching in it to Year 9 (but couldn’t complete the 1945 tutorial!), and my websites - primarily GameMaker Blog but also some general talk about SEO (mainly how I ‘hijacked’ 3rd place in a search for “Rickmansworth School“).

This was followed by Computing in which we undertook a field-trip. To the room next door, the library and LI6 to inspect hubs and the server. What fun! Still it made a change from the normal lesson format.

Jonathan Finerty’s Rap

Jon Finerty’s turbo tax rap:

And if you want to know why you should hire him, click here - turn on speakers to hear him sing!

Do starters make you posh?

A small number of blogs I read often seem to have on topic posts broken up by the most bizarre pictures of food. Take for example Jon from Stencyl’s blog. Well I couldn’t possibly be outdone by him, so when Jon Finerty said that having starters made you posh I decided to join in the game.

Avocado and mozzarella:

Strange apple and pork loaf:

Not the best of photos, but then they were taken with not the best of cameras.

Aidy Spike is over

The spike in traffic that AidyBoothroyd.com and its soundboard received in the days around Watford’s game at home to Crystal Palace has now all but gone.

Google Analytics shows that the number of visits to the site was 61 yesterday, which although much larger than the normal average of around 4 or 5 visits a day is, much less than the high of 573 visits on Friday 18th April.

The advice of Jon and common sense led me to place a leaderboard sized AdSense ad on the soundboard page, however I think I may have added it too late to take full advantage of the maximum height of the traffic spike.
