Temperature-effected Traffic Levels

Philip Gamble on: Philip Gamble @ 5:43 pm May 27, 2010

Many websites have regular variations in travel levels be it a weekend dip (or peak for some sites) or increased levels of traffic in the run up to an event (for example for a website relating to a sports series or TV show).

Given the recent warm weather I decided to see what the trend was between average daily temperature in Watford, retrieved from Wunderground.com, and the number of visits to the website for its main park.

As you can see below the increase in traffic levels at the weekends is far greater than the increases that occur if there is a mid-week temperature change.  The figures have been adjusted so they both have the same start point.
