West Herts College MasterCard advert

New Watford location spotted on TV! Okay, this isn’t all that new - I uploaded the video a little while ago. The only program I’ve seen this inbetween is the Tour de France on ITV4 and I’m not sure if it is running on any other channels.

MasterCard advert with sections filmed at West Herts College:

And look how many flights they managed to fit into one runway slot at Stanstead - who says we need airport expansion?

June 2008 stats

After seeing that a couple of sites have received higher than anticipated traffic levels in recent days I decided I should make another monthly stats post (April 2008 stats).

GameMaker Blog (blog only, NOT gma)
Unique visitors: 2,809
Pageviews: 7,070
14 posts in June compared to 27 in April. Pageviews are down quite a bit, but uniques are up slightly.

Stencyl
Unique visitors: 400
Pageviews: 774
Time spent on maintaining site remains as none, but traffic has increased again. When Stencyl is released I expect there will be a big rise in traffic.

Cassiobury Park
Unique visitors: 208
Pageviews: 753
The June redesign has lead to a significant increase in traffic levels and has seen the site move in 2 months from my sixth most popular site to the third most popular. Brings in £9 a month with an occasional 2 minute update about once a month.

Traffic down considerably (as can be expected), but the majority still coming from the BBC

GameMaker.tv
Unique visitors: 124

Expensive domain. No income.

Can’t make any income from this site because of Creative Commons licences used on the content. Labour intensive to add content so this will just site here. Need to see if it is worth renewing when the time comes.

The site below was excluded from the above list because of its nature - serving ‘ads’ across many sites - most of them not mine.

I acquire mygmgame.com

A couple of days ago I took over MyGMGame.com a website offering free file hosting - predominately to users of Game Maker.

The site is quite big with over 19,000 files uploaded taking up 1GB of web space - ridiculously small when compared to the huge filehosts - but certainly one of the biggest used by members of the game maker community.

MyGMGame certainly needs a lot of work - the site is littered with typos and features that either don’t work or are incomplete, and the design varies across the site. The biggest change taking over MyGMGame will bring is that I will have to work with ASP on a Windows server.

Having never created or hosted an ASP site on a Windows server before (apart from one minor homework) I really didn’t know where to start. I brought some hosting from goDaddy, before realising that they give you free hosting with every domain you register there which in my case meant I had about 10 free hosting accounts ready to go (waste of $10). Eventually I stuck a deal with the creator of the site to host on their computer.

The site becoming available is actually very good news as recently (past week or so) I had created a list of 6 GameMaker sites to consider purchasing and MyGMGame was one of my top two picks (I won’t mention the other one).

The site has over 900 members, a PageRank of 3 a scarily bad Alex Rank of around 1.4M. I hope to develop the site to complement GameMaker Blog and indeed the first thing I did after taking over the site was switch their news provider from our main rivals to our own.

Spam

But this time it’s personal….

Time to go?

What the hell is it with N.E.R.D and girls standing in the line for the bathroom?

It isn’t music.

On PageRanks

The highest Google PageRank I have ever achieved for one of my sites is 4/10. This was for a site, funded by a New Zealand online advertising company, I co-ran which provided a CPM (per thousand impression) based advertising service for promoters. The NZ company went bust and we closed the site a couple of years back, the Page Rank has now fallen to just 1.

Here is a list of some of my domains which have a PageRank:

Suprisingly Stencyl.org has PR 0. Fleague.net did get (somehow) to PR 3 at one point, thanks to a single link in from a high PageRank page.

Lewis - Wow.

Site report: GameMaker8.com

I was just taking a look at my ProjectWonderful account today which reminded me of my domain GameMaker8.com

The site contains 3 ProjectWonderful ads and the content (first 200 words or so) of the latest 10 posts on GameMaker Blog from its RSS feed. The stats provided by PW show that over the past month the site has been getting an average of about 9 unique visitors a day.

I was quite mystified to discover it was receiving that amount of traffic, and even more so to discover that I appear to have neglected to install Google Analytics on the page so I have next to no information on how people found the site - although my bet is that 90%+ is from Google searches.

I registered the domain in early March this year when HostMySite were offering ridiculously cheap domains for a short period of time (they were $4). I was partly influenced by the fact that GameMaker4 - GameMaker7 were all registered and parked at PPC pages, I assume because of the number of searches made for people looking for various versions of the software. Also I can use the domain to drive traffic to GameMaker blog, and in 2009, when GameMaker 8 is due to be released, I can probably knock up a quick mini-site.

I can’t find a way to see the total amount made from one ad spot with ProjectWonderful, but currently GameMaker8.com is running at about $0.05 a day :P. Pretty pathetic really, but from just 9 visitors very good.

Analytics has now been added.

Le Tour commence!

I have just finished watching the first stage of the Tour de France.

Wonder how many riders/teams will have left/been fired/been kicked out by the end?

Maybe Dwain Chambres could take up cycling?

£20 EMA

I’m still getting EMA (government cash bribe to try to get poor people to stay on at school,) even though I’ve finished school. Now that is stupid. I guess they must pay until the traditional end of the school year.
